Bayeux Tapestry

On Wednesday 2 September, we went to the British Museum for a VIP viewing of the Bayeux Tapestry.

Camden School for Girls was selected, as were schools from Hastings and  some French speaking schools. We listened to a speech about the Bayeux Tapestry’s history, which begins around the time of Edward the Confessor, who had no heir to his throne. Many people fought for their claim to the throne, including William, Duke of Normandy, leading to the Battle of Hastings in 1066. These events are told through the 70 metre long embroidery (the tapestry), which we got to see and study.
After viewing the tapestry, we went up to the main hall of the museum and sat on the steps. We listened to entertaining and important speeches from the Prime Minister, Andy Burnham, French President Emmanuel Macron and King Charles and Queen Camilla.

The speeches discussed the collaboration between the two countries to bring the tapestry to England and the developed friendship between Britain and France. After the speeches, we had the opportunity to shake hands and talk to Andy Burnham and also met Lisa Nandy (Culture Secretary), Theresa May and George Osborne. It was amazing to see and we had a great time!

Weekly Wellbeing Section

This new section of Friday news comes from the Psychology Department, and they will be sharing a tip each week that you can incorporate into your life that is based on research (and a link for those who want to delve a bit deeper).

Working on Wellbeing

At the end of each day, take just two minutes to write down (on paper ideally, in a notebook or diary, not on your phone):

Three things that went well today (they can be big or small).

Research from positive psychology has shown that regularly noticing and reflecting on positive experiences can increase wellbeing and help people become more aware of the good moments that might otherwise go unnoticed. Over time, this simple habit can encourage a more balanced and optimistic outlook.
